Garden Center Approved for South Eastern Avenue in Henderson

A long-idle commercial site on South Eastern Avenue could return to use as a neighborhood garden center. Henderson’s Planning Commission approved a retail plant nursery at 10485 S. Eastern Ave. on October 15, 2026. The decision clears an important land-use step, but the nursery is not open and no opening date has been announced.

Garden center approval at a glance

  • Location: 10485 S. Eastern Ave., within an existing commercial area
  • Approved use: Retail plant nursery and garden center
  • City action: Conditional-use permit and design review
  • Approval date: October 15, 2026
  • Still unknown: Business name, opening date, hours, inventory and hiring plans

Planning staff said a nursery previously operated at the property, which had remained closed and unused for an extended period. Reusing the existing site could bring commercial activity back to this part of the corridor without creating a new development area.

The application came from Andre Nelms. Commissioners reviewed a conditional-use permit for the nursery and a separate design review addressing the proposed architecture and site layout.

What Henderson approved

A conditional-use permit determines whether a proposed business type is appropriate at a particular location under city rules. Commissioners allowed the site to operate as a retail nursery, subject to the conditions attached to their decision.

The design review examined physical details such as building appearance, access, parking and landscaping. Planning staff reported that the proposal met the applicable development standards.

The approval allows the applicant to advance the project; it does not authorize an immediate public opening. Additional permits, improvements, inspections and operating preparations may still be required.

Residents can review the city’s Planning Commission meeting information and Henderson’s agendas, minutes and video records for the official record.

What the public record says

No letters of support or opposition had been received before the meeting, according to the staff presentation. That does not represent every neighbor’s opinion, but it shows the city had not recorded written comments on either side by that stage of the review.

The commission’s action was described as final unless appealed. An appeal filed under city rules could create another review step, so residents interested in the project should use the meeting record to verify its status.

Details that remain unknown

The available public material does not identify a confirmed customer-facing business name or provide several operating details:

  • A construction schedule or opening date
  • Regular days and hours of operation
  • Plant varieties, garden supplies or seasonal inventory
  • Delivery, landscaping or other customer services
  • Hiring dates, job openings or staffing levels

These details often emerge after the land-use review. Planning officials evaluate the proposed use and site design, while the operator typically announces products, services and customer information closer to opening.

The address is part of a larger commercial area. Until the operator publishes a site map or storefront information, future visitors should verify the exact entrance.

Why the location may interest residents

South Eastern Avenue serves established Henderson neighborhoods and a broad mix of shops, restaurants and services. A nursery here could give residents another nearby option when planning yards, patios and desert landscapes.

Drought-tolerant plants, shade trees, soil amendments and water-conscious gardening supplies would be useful in Southern Nevada. However, the city’s approval does not confirm what the operator will stock.

Residents planning outdoor projects can consult the City of Henderson’s water conservation resources for efficient-irrigation guidance and local landscaping requirements. These resources are separate from the nursery proposal but offer relevant information for desert gardening.

What to watch next

  1. Business identity: A public name, website or storefront sign would identify the operator.
  2. Site activity: Building permits, property improvements or inspections may indicate that work is advancing.
  3. Customer information: Official announcements should eventually confirm hours, products, services and opening plans.
  4. Decision status: City records can show whether the approval remained final or faced an appeal.

The confirmed news is the approval of a garden center use at 10485 S. Eastern Ave. Residents should wait for an operator announcement before planning a visit.

I'm fine with reusing the site, but I hope the parking and entrance on Eastern work well once customers start coming in.

If you're new to gardening here, ask which plants can handle the summer sun before buying. Hopefully this place will have helpful staff.

Marcus P.Good point. I learned the hard way that a tag saying full sun doesn't always mean Henderson full sun.

I keep a few plants on my patio, and summer is rough on them. I'd love a nursery with advice for Henderson heat.

Elena RuizSame here. My patio gets afternoon sun, and even the supposedly hardy plants struggle in July. Local advice would help.

Does anyone know if the garden center plans to carry native plants? That would make a big difference for yards around here.

Approval is good, but I wonder how much work the property still needs. Sounds like an opening could be a ways off.

That’s a fair reading. The approval lets the project move forward, but permits, improvements and inspections may still be needed, and no opening date has been announced.

Glad to see the old nursery site on Eastern might be used again. A place to buy plants nearby would be nice.
