Spooky swims and creative activities
Cosmic Swim Freaky Friday is scheduled for Friday, October 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Henderson Multigenerational Indoor Pool, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway.
For families who prefer the pool to a costume parade, the evening swim offers a different way to mark the season. Review swimmer supervision requirements before bringing younger children.
The event registration page has the latest admission and swimmer rules.
Spooky Birds and a candle workshop
Spooky Birds takes place at Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 350 E. Galleria Dr. on Saturday, October 17. The overview lists 4:30–6 p.m., but the individual listing says 4:30–6:30 p.m.; confirm the ending time with the organizer.
On Tuesday, October 20, the Spell Candle Carving Workshop runs 4–7 p.m. at Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Pkwy. A $25 materials fee is payable to the instructor; check for any separate registration cost.
These activities give residents alternatives to the usual candy-centered Halloween events, including an opportunity to try a hands-on program.
Check the workshop's registration page for age requirements and available spaces.

Little Villains Ball and a pet-friendly walk
The Little Villains Ball is scheduled for Friday, October 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Registration is per person; children five and under must be accompanied by an adult.
On Saturday, October 24, the Pet Trick-or-Treat 1-Mile Walk runs 10 a.m.–noon at Heritage Bark Park, 350 S. Racetrack Rd. Registration is $7 per pet in the city booking listing, with separate 10–11 a.m. and 11 a.m.–noon sessions by dog size.
Pet owners should also think about the weather, pavement temperature, and whether their animal is comfortable around crowds and unfamiliar sounds.
A short outing is often more enjoyable than pushing a nervous pet through a full event.
Activities for little kids and older adults
Teenie Weenie Halloweenie is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to noon at Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Children six and under must be accompanied by an adult; admission is priced per person.
The Masquerade Ball for adults 50 and older runs Thursday, October 29, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 S. Racetrack Rd. Advance registration is required.
Trunk or Treat and Haunted at the Ranch
Trunk or Treat runs Thursday, October 29, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. at Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Rd. Time-slot registration is required; children under three are free.
Haunted at the Ranch takes place October 30 and 31, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night at Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool, 1575 C Galleria Dr. Pre-registration saves on admission; the city booking system has listed a $5 base rate.
The two-night program features swimming, activities, and a haunted house, with a less-scary option for younger guests.
Zombie Archery Shoot is Saturday, October 31, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Whitney Mesa Archery Range, 1990 Patrick Ln. The city booking listing specifies ages 7+ and rates starting at $15.

Safety tips from Henderson Police
The Henderson Police Department’s Halloween guidance recommends accompanying small children, staying in well-lit areas, and carrying a flashlight or glowstick.
Reflective clothing helps drivers notice pedestrians, while masks that obstruct vision can create unnecessary risks.
Use sidewalks and marked crossings, and remind children never to enter a stranger’s home when collecting treats.
Check candy before children eat it, and carry a charged phone in case plans change.
The city recommends trick-or-treating from 6 to 9 p.m. on October 31.
Before you go: Registration and event details
Admission and registration vary by event. For unlisted prices, accessibility information or last-minute changes, consult the city’s official Halloween Happenings calendar and the linked individual event pages.
Costumes are part of the fun, but comfortable shoes, water, and a practical exit plan can matter just as much.
Choose the outing that fits your household's ages and interests, and check the city’s event listings before heading out. From a quiet afternoon workshop to a lively Halloween night, there are several ways to celebrate close to home. |

Zombie Archery on Halloween sounds interesting, though I’m curious about the age limit. A 1:30 start would leave plenty of time for trick-or-treating later.
Two possible times for Trunk or Treat on October 29 is confusing. I’d hate to show up with the grandkids at the wrong one, so I’ll check the city listing first.
I’m glad the Pet Trick-or-Treat Walk has separate times for small and larger dogs. My little terrier does much better when things aren’t too crowded.
Leah P.Same with my small dog. I’m hoping the separate time makes it a little calmer for them.
The $25 materials fee for candle carving seems reasonable if everything is included. Does anyone know whether there’s a separate registration charge?
I wish the city pages agreed on when Spooky Birds ends. We went to the Bird Viewing Preserve last spring and enjoyed it, but an extra half hour matters when planning dinner.
That extra half hour can make a real difference when planning dinner. The city’s overview says Spooky Birds ends at 6 p.m., while the individual listing says 6:30 p.m., so we recommend confirming with the organizer before you go.
Cosmic Swim sounds like a fun change from the usual Halloween plans. I’ll check the swimmer rules before promising the kids we can go.
Maria G.Good call. My kids would be disappointed if we showed up and found out they needed to register first.
